ORBCOMM (formerly Skywave) device setup

This guide shows how to set up ORBCOMM (formerly Skywave) trackers. There are three different setup models:

• ORBCOMM tracker Cloud
• ORBCOMM IDP
• ORBCOMM DMR/DAP-XML
• ORBCOMM OGX
• ORBCOMM PlatformApi

Plugin

1. Log in to Site Admin (Legacy)
2. Go to Plugins → Get more plugins.
3. Install the ORBCOMM plugin.

ORBCOMM Device Cloud setup

1. Log in to Site Admin (Legacy).

2. Go to Service → Providers.

3. Select Add New Provider.

4. Enter http://devicecloud.orbcomm.com in Url.

5. Enter username and password to your ORBCOMM account.

6. Enter DeviceCloud,ORBCOMM Demo in CustomString.

7. Enter ORBCOMM in RouteLabel.  

8. Save.

9. Click Start on the provider's list.

How to add a asset to the application

1. Log in to your application
2. Click  +Asset in the Assets panel
3. Select asset hardware → ORBCOMM GT1100.
4. Fill in the ID of the tracker.
5. Enter a Username and a Display Name for this asset.
6. Save the setup. 

8. Click Save.

ORBCOMM IDP setup

1. Log in to Site Admin (Legacy).
2. Go to Devices → ORBCOMM.
3. Click New.
4. Enter Username and Password and select IDP
5. Select the Provider from the list.
6. Save.

7. Click Start.

How to add a asset in the application

1. Log in to your application
2. Click  +Asset in the Assets panel
3. Select Device hardware → ORBCOMM IDP Standard.
4. Fill in the Terminal ID
5. Enter a Username and a Display Name for this asset.
6. Save the setup.

ORBCOMM DMR/DAP-XML setup

1. Log in to Site Admin (Legacy)
2. Go to Devices → ORBCOMM.
3. Click New.
4. Enter Username and Password and select DAP or ASPI-XML
5. Save.

6. Click Start.

How to add a asset to the application

1. Log in to your application
2. Click  +Asset in the Assets panel
3. Select Device hardware → ORBCOMM Standard.
4. Fill in the Terminal ID
5. Enter a Username and a Display Name for this asset.
6. Save the setup.

ORBCOMM OGX setup

1. Log in to Site Admin (Legacy)
2. Go to Devices → ORBCOMM.
3. Click New.
4. Enter Username and Password and select OGX.
5. Save.

6. Click Start.

1. Log in to Site Admin (Legacy)
2. Go to Devices → ORBCOMM.
3. Click New.
4. Enter Username and Password and select OrbcommPlatformApi.
5. Save.

6. Click Start.

Additional notes

• For custom poll messages, please contact support and we will add a Device Type with custom fields.
• To monitor data communication between tracker and server you can use the Terminal.
• Use Template Commands to manage your trackers remotely
• Custom URL: GpsGate will make a GET request like this:
  https://IDP_Custom_URL/get_return_messages.json?access_id=username&password=pswd&start_utc=2019-04-01

If the report in the terminal starts with "[mobileid]/skywave/sky" the report was received over IDP satellite gateway. If the report starts with "[mobileid]/skywave/http" the report was received over GPRS. (As noted in the article above, the ORBCOMM asset was previously called Skywave.)
