Generate Email, SMS or Fleet app alerts based on Geofence alerts

This example demonstrates how to configure SMS, Email, and Fleet app alerts when an asset moves outside a designated geofence.

Prerequisites:

Geofence Creation: Ensure that a geofence group has already been set up. (the rule applies to a geofence group)

User Tag Configuration: Create a new tag or use an existing one. Make sure that the phone number and email address are filled in for all users who should receive the notifications.

Notification setup

1. Login with the proper user into your Application and select Main Menu >Admin > Event Rules

2. Click on the Custom Event Rule button

3. Fill the steps from 1 to 3 with your choices. 

4. Under step 4. Expression, select the Geofence Expression. 

Note that you will see geofence Groups - not individual geofences - in your list.

4. On 5. Notifications select Email as a notification type.

5. Choose the Recipients tag 

Select a tag where you know you have at least one user with an email in user properties. (Press on the drop-down arrow, select the tag and press on OK button)

6. Now, it's time to customize the email subject. Create a subject line by combining fixed text with dynamic variables of your choice.

  • Click the drop-down arrow and enter your text.
  • To include details like the vehicle name or other data, use the right-hand dropdown and select the relevant variable.
  • Once you've composed your subject, click OK to save your changes.

7. In the same way described above, the body email can be customised by adding text and variables.

SMS notification setup

8. To add an SMS notification, press the plus + symbol and add SMS as a new notification type.

9. In the same way that we customized the email notification, we can also compose the SMS notification.

Fleet app notifications setup 

10. Add a new notification from the plus symbol and proceed in the same way as SMS and email. 

11. Click Next until you reach the end.

12. Click on Save.

Result

In this example, when the asset leaves the geofence, a notification via SMS, Fleet app and email is sent to the recipient of the message (the operator with a valid phone number and email address).
