Track fuel consumption based on customized accumulator types

Track fuel consumption based on customized accumulator types extends the Track fuel consumption with fill log feature.
Now any accumulator type setup via the Flexible Signal Accumulators feature can be used to calculate the fuel consumption/efficiency.

This guide shows how to use the Fuel Consumption plugin to track fuel consumption by logging your fuel fills.


Install Plugin

Follow these steps to install the Fuel Consumption plugin.

  1. Go to SiteAdmin > Plugins Get More Plugins
  2. Install the Fuel Consumption plugin

Enable Fuel Consumption plugin in Applications

Activate the Fuel Consumption plugin in your application following these steps.

  1. Login to the SiteAdmin application
  2. Select the Applications tab
  3. Click on the Application you want the Fuel Consumption plugin in
  4. Scroll down to the Privileges and Roles section and check all the boxes under Plugins / Fuel Consumption as shown below
  5. Check the boxes for the FC reports under Plugins / Reporting / _CreateReport, marked in yellow below
  6. Save the Application

VehicleTracker Application Setup

These steps show you how to setup your VehicleTracker application to use the Fuel Consumption plugin.

Modify User Type

Enable the new field Expected Fuel Consumption for users with the Device User Type

  1. Login to the VehicleTracker application as an Administrator
  2. Click on the menu icon in the Vehicles panel and select the User Type Editor
  3. Select the Device User Type and check the field Exp. Fuel Consumption
  4. Save the User Type

Fuel Consumption Plugin Usage

The Fuel Consumption plugin shows fuel consumption for vehicles based on fuel fills and the distance driven.

Add Expected Fuel Consumption and check Odometer

Add an expected fuel consumption for a vehicle following these steps.

  1. Right-click on a User in the Vehicles list and select Edit User
  2. Add a fuel consumption value in the Exp. Fuel Consumption field
  3. Click on the Accumulators tab and check that the Odometer is configured and correctly setup for the vehicle
  4. Save the User

View Fuel Fills

To view fuel fills and fuel consumption for a vehicle, follow these steps.

  1. Click on Fuel Consumption in the Fuel Consumption menu
  2. A list of fuel fills for the selected time period and the selected accumulator type is shown for the selected vehicle

  3. Switch the Accumulator Type to update the data

  4. Click on the Graph button to show the graph for the selected time period and Accumulator Type

Note: The very first fuel fill does not show consumption values as the distance driven before that fill is unknown

Fuel Fill File Format

Fuel fill files have the format below. Any number of <Refill> … </Refill> sections can be included in one file.

Note 1: It is important to give each file a unique fileid. If the same file id is used for second import the previously imported fuel fills will be deleted.
Note 2: The TimeStamp is expressed in UTC time zone.
Note 3: Fuel fills will only be imported for vehicles in the current Application.

Fuel Fill File Import

Follow these steps to import a file with fuel fills.

  1. Click on Import in the Fuel Consumption menu
  2. Select your file and click Upload
  3. The fuel fills are imported and displayed in the Fuel Consumption window

Manual Fuel Fill Entry

You can enter fuel fills manually. Follow these steps:

  1. Click on Fuel Consumption in the Fuel Consumption menu
  2. Click on the “Add Refill” button in the upper right.
  3. Enter a DateTime and Volume for your fuel fill and click Save
  4. The matching Odometer value for the vehicle is fetched and the consumption is calculated

Alternatively you can press the Save & Next button if you want to add more refills.

Fuel Consumption Reports

Two reports are included with the Fuel Consumption Plugin. You can activate them under the Reports / Manage Reports menu in the VehicleTracker application.
